HomeMy Public PortalAbout2008_02_12_R031 The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED February 12,2008 ADOPTED February 12,2008 A RESOLUTION: EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE METRO RAIL EXTENSION IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA RESOLUTION NO. 2008-31 WHEREAS, the extension of rail to Reston and eventually to Dulles Airport has been planned for many years; and WHEREAS, the Dulles Toll Road is now overwhelmed with traffic, with 91,000 vehicles per day using the Toll Road; and WHEREAS, the Federal Aviation Administration's plan for Dulles International Airport recommended a transit line along the access road in 1964 and MW AA has had the Metrorail expansion on its master plan for over 21 years; and WHEREAS, the extension of Metrorail to Reston and eventually to Dulles Airport is important to the economic viability of the businesses along this route and is important to the quality of life of the Town of Leesburg residents who commute along the Dulles Toll Road everyday. THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia hereby urges the Federal Transit Administration to reconsider its position and to fully fund its share for the Metrorail extension to Reston.
