HomeMy Public PortalAboutBrewster School Committee -- 2008-12-18 Minutes~ DOD Brewster School Committee O D Minutes of December 18, 2008 Held at Eddy Elementary School ;~~N ~ ~ ~~,~,~ Chair O'Reilly called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: For the Committee: Steve Jones, Marie Enochty, John O'Reilly, Jennifer Rabold, David Telman For the Administration: Michael Gradone, Denise Fronius, Keith Gauley AGENDA CHANGES -None CITIZENS SPEAK -None PRIORITY BUSINESS - Administrators' Reports Keith Gauley reported on the winter concert; grants they received; reviewed a chart on intervention; the new way they are looking at the data on MCAS performance; how the tests have changed, we know better how kids are doing. Denise Fronius reported that the Nauset elementary schools are all curriculum aligned; open response is an area of concern; on January 8, all coordinators district-wide will be working together on open response; Mrs. Borsari and Mrs. Moore are working with teachers to get technology infused in the curriculum; grants applied for and received; and she had samples of students' writing. Michael Gradone reported that a fifth grader has moved to Brewster from Eastham who had cone-on-one educational assistant; Principal Helman asked if the student could stay at Eastham Elementary so the student could stay in his current setting; Hans Baumhauer arranged transporting the student to Eastham with First Student. Mr. Leibowitz will be presenting a feasibility study on affordable housing on Stony Brook land on January 26; Mr. Sumner will attend the January 15 School Committee meeting. The Search Committee usurped the School Committee meeting on March 19 (the finalists will be interviewed by the Joint School Committees that evening); the Committee agreed to meet on March 12. There was discussion of the possibility of an override to enable all departments to maintain services. REPORTS AND INFORMATION - Cape Cod Collaborative Marie Enochty reported that the board is interviewing four finalists for Mr. Healy's position and site visits will be done. Brewster School Committee Minutes -December 18, 2008 Pape 2 - Search Committee Marie reported that the Superintendent's position will be advertised in January with a deadline for applications on February 17, interviews March 3 and 4, and finalist interviews by Joint School Committees on March 19. APPROVAL OF MINUTES It was moved by Jennifer Rabo/d, seconded by Steve Jones, and voted unanimously to approve the minutes of November 17, 2008. It was moved by Marie Enochty, seconded by Steve Jones, and voted unanimously to approve the minutes of November 20, 2008.
