A RESOLUTION: REQUESTING ENHANCED FUNDING SUPPORT FROM LOUDOUN
COUNTY FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE TOWN PRACTICE OF USING
LEESBURG POLICE OFFICERS AS SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS IN THE
PUBLIC SCHOOLS LOCATED WITHIN THE TOWN.
WHEREAS, the Council has a continuing interest in the public safety of the schools located in
our community and maintaining a strong partnership with the Loudoun County Schools; and
WHEREAS, this practice of utilizing Leesburg Police Officers as School Resource Officers has
been successful for the past several years; and
WHEREAS, the funding provided by Loudoun County only partially offsets the cost incurred by
the Town of Leesburg for a service that is provided by the County in other parts of Loudoun County; and
WHEREAS, there are no available federal or state grants to help the Town offset some of the
costs for this service to County schools.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council ofthe Town of Leesburg in Virginia requests that
the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors fully fund the request of $349,930 in their FY 09 Budget to
support the placement of Town of Leesburg Police School Resource Officers in the 3 middle and 2 high
schools located within the Town of Leesburg.
