HomeMy Public PortalAboutr 00:044No. 00-44 Date of Adoption ~ 2D, RESOLUTION OPPOSING "OCEAN ROUTING" OF AIR TRAFFIC AND URGING A REDESIGN INITIATIVE. WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret (the "Borough") wishes to preserve the quiet enjoyment of the community by its residents; and WHEREAS, the Federal Aviation Association ("FAA") is conducting a complete redesign of the approach and departure routes to Newark International Airport (the "Airport"); and WHEREAS, a special interest group has proposed a routing scheme known as "Ocean Routing"; and WHEREAS, "Ocean Routing" would result in increased air traffic directly over the Borough; and WHEREAS, the FAA has determined that "Ocean Routing" possess serious safety and operational concern; and WHEREAS, there are pending in the New Jersey Legislature a resolution calling for the testing of "Ocean Routing". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret that the governing body vehemently opposes the testing of "Ocean Routing", and urges the rejection of any resolution supporting said testing. BE, IT, FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council support the FAA's airspace redesign initiative. BE, IT, FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be forwarded to Senator Joseph Vitale, Assemblyman John Wisniewski and Assemblywoman Arline Friscia, Congressman Robert Menedez and the Federal Aviation Association.
