A RESOLUTION: SUPPORT FOR A PUBLIC COMPETITION TO DESIGN AN OFFICIAL
TOWN FLAG
WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg will celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding on
September 14,2008; and
WHEREAS, the Town has established a 250th Anniversary Celebration Committee to
promote this historic anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the 250th Anniversary celebrations for the Town will include a variety of
events slated to take place throughout 2008; and
WHEREAS, throughout its long and rich history Leesburg has served under three different
national flags and has never displayed a corporate flag of its own; and
WHEREAS, the Council wishes to commemorate the 250th Anniversary by the
establishment of an official Town of Leesburg flag that shall be a prominent and appropriate
symbol of the community; and
WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the 250th Anniversary Celebration Committee that
a public competition should be held to determine the design of the official Town of Leesburg flag
with the winhing flag to be unveiled at the 250th anniversary celebration on September 14, 2008;
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia to
support the public competition to design an official flag for the Town of Leesburg to
commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Town.
