HomeMy Public PortalAbout2008_05_13_R72 Participation in the Energy Star Change a Light, Change the World Program The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED May 13. 2008 RESOLUTION NO. 2008-72 ADOPTED May 13. 2008 A RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING TOWN PARTICIPATION IN THE ENERGY STAR CHANGE A LIGHT, CHANGE THE WORLD CAMPAIGN WHEREAS, the adopted Town Plan promotes energy efficiency and conservation; and WHEREAS, The ENERGY STAR "Change a Light, Change the World" Campaign is a national call-to-action to encourage individuals to replace inefficient light bulbs with energy efficient ones; and WHEREAS, the campaign helps conserve energy and reduce pollutants associated with energy production; and WHEREAS, towns and cities across the nation are taking the initiative to promote wise use of energy through the ENERGY STAR "Change a Light, Change the World" Campaign; and WHEREAS, The Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC) volunteers to function as the campaign's local "Pledge Driver" to invite Town citizens and businesses to pledge to replace at least one standard light with an ENERGY STAR one; and WHEREAS, once the Town collects 1,000 signatures, Leesburg will be recognized with a certificate and a press release template highlighting the difference the Town has made for energy resources and the environment. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: The Town Council hereby endorses Town participation in the ENERGY STAR "Change a Light, Change the World" Campaign.
