A RESOLUTION: ACCEPTING TOWN PARTICPATION IN THE GREEN GOVERNMENT
CHALLENGE
WHEREAS, Leesburg is a participating jurisdiction of the Virginia Municipal League (VML);
and
WHEREAS, the Leesburg Town Council recognizes the need to take innovative steps to reduce
energy usage and promote sustainability; and
WHEREAS, the Green Government Challenge is a friendly competition designed to encourage
implementation of specific environmental policies and practical actions to reduce the carbon emissions
generated by both the local government and the broader community; and
WHEREAS, local governments must register to participate in the Green Government Challenge
and have until September 30, 2008 to complete the Challenge; and
WHEREAS, the Town has already undertaken many of the actions called for by the Green
Government Challenge.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council ofthe Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows:
The Town Council accepts the VML Green Government Challenge, and authorizes the Town
Manager to:
a. Register on-line to accept the Challenge.
b. Start completing the Challenge.
c. Submit the completed Challenge by September 30, 2008 on-line or via mail which includes
the certification signature of the jurisdiction's highest elected official.
