For Immediate Release
Leesburg 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Planned for Tuesday,
September 11, 2012 on Town Green
Leesburg, VA (August 30, 2012) – To mark the 11th anniversary of the tragic events and lives
lost throughout the United States on September 11, 2001, the Town of Leesburg will be holding
an evening remembrance ceremony on Tuesday, September 11th at 6:30pm on the Town
Green (25 West Market Street).
The Town of Leesburg encourages residents to observe the designated “National Day of Service
and Remembrance” by volunteering, donating time or goods, or simply offering a helping hand
during this day of commemoration. The “Serve America Act” was signed into law by President
Obama on April 21, 2009. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), a supporter of the legislation, said,
“September 11 should not only be a day for mourning - it should be a day to think about our
neighbors, our community and our country."
In addition to the remembrance ceremony, the Town’s Freedom Memorial at Freedom Park
(101 Colonel Grenata Cir SE, off Tolbert Lane.) will be open from 7:30am – 9:00pm for those
wishing to pay their respects individually.
Both events are free, open to the public, and will be held rain or shine. One block of West
Market Street will be closed from 6:30pm to 7:15pm during the remembrance ceremony. For
more information, contact the Town of Leesburg’s Parks and Recreation Department at (703)
