Commissioners present —Galen Bruer (Chair), Randy Hughes (Vice Chair) Brad Kvanbek (Secretary), Gerry Dykhoff, Theresa Richey and Ray Essendrup. B. Also present — Carolyn Smith II. Additions to agenda. — None III. Approval of last meeting's minutes. — None. IV.Business. A. Updates and comments from May park tour - Present on the park tour was mayor Phil Zietlow; council members Carolyn Smith and Tom Supel; planning commissioner Randy Brinkman and park commissioners Galen Bruer, Randy Hughes, Brad Kvanbek, Gerry Dykhoff, Tom Gregor, Theresa Richey and Ray Essendrup. 1. Morningside — a) Options for skating rink. b) Most playground equipment has been installed. c) Shingles off shelters. d) Screen for well tank, is well tank an attractive nuisance? e) Move portable toilet for summer versus winter usage. f) Meeting will be held at this park on August 21st at 7:00pm. 2. Independence Beach — a) Boat ramp cost, usage, parking. Brad will check on cost, Carolyn mentioned Media concrete contractor by Tower Drive. b) Meeting will be held at this park on July 17th at 7:00pm. Maple — a) This park had a surprising number of people, 26. b) Ball field needs clean-up but lawn looks good. c) Does the park need a portable toilet or picnic table we should look for donations. d) This park will also be discussed at the July meeting at Independence beach. e) Motion made by Theresa, passed. To recommend the city council put in a portable toilet at this park. 4. Holy name — a) Our mayor Phil Zietlow took off his shoes and socks and waded in to pickup beer bottles left by litters. 5. Hunter — a) Playground equipment needs paint and general maintenance. b) Rocks on basketball and tennis courts, would wood chips be less likely to end up on courts? c) Meeting will be held at this park on September 18th at 7:OOpm. d) Motion made by Ray, passed. To recommend the city paint the rusty slid at this park. 6. Legion Park — a) Added playground equipment for the future. b) Playground surround broken and installed to high. c) Reviewed Gerry's sketch of the donor recognition structure. Discussed placement, Gerry will get prices on material options. d) Motion made by Theresa, passed. Cherry Hills trail and improvement - City to cut grass and put down chips as available. C. Comments from Jim Dillman - Jim sent Galen a list of comments about parks, addressed comments. There is a proposed townhouse development on Hamel road and some city owned land that could be used as a park. D. Natural features program - Galen will check with the Hennepin Conservation District and their list of landowners. E. Parks donation program - South Crow River news reporter inquired and wants information for a story including past donations and future donation needs. 1. Concession stand at Legion - $106,000.00 2. Parking lot at Legion - $30,000.00 3. Trees, boat ramp, picnic table, benches, playground equipment and trails. V. Adjourn — 10:10 p.m. Next meeting, July 17th at Independence Beach.
