RESOLUTION NO. 2008-128
A RESOLUTION: RECOMMENDING THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL IN LEESBURG
BE NAMED FOR WESTMORELAND DAVIS
WHEREAS, Westmoreland Davis was elected Governor of the State of Virginia and served
from 1918 to 1922 and was the only Virginia governor from Loudoun County; and
WHEREAS, while Governor, Westmoreland Davis continually supported education on a
state-wide level; and
WHEREAS, Governor and Mrs. Davis personally donated both time and money to improve
education in Loudoun County; and
WHEREAS, Governor and Mrs. Davis' home, Morven Park, will share a boundary line
with the proposed high school; and
WHEREAS, Governor Davis' commitment to education continues today in the form of the
Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation which offers numerous scholarships that allow
deserving students the opportunity to further their educations and numerous educational
programs for local school children.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia
recommends that the new high school in Leesburg be named "Westmoreland Davis High
School" in honor and recognition of the legacy of Virginia's 56th Governor.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia
recommends that an athletic field at the proposed high school be named for the O'Connor family,
who previously owned the land the high school will be built upon.
