HomeMy Public PortalAbout2008_09_09_R143 Preliminary Planning Funds for Downtown Improvements The Town of Leesburg, Virginia RESOLUTION NO. 2008-143 PRESENTED: September 9. 2008 ADOPTED: September 9. 2008 A RESOLUTION: PRELIMINARY PLANNING FUNDS FOR DOWNTOWN IMPROVEMENTS WHEREAS, in May 2008 the Downtown Improvement Association presented their recommendations for improvements to Downtown Leesburg that would involve public and private investment; and WHEREAS, there were several public projects that were estimated to total approximately $5 million in investment; and WHEREAS, the Town Council believes that a cooperative partnership with downtown property owners and businesses will guide the development of a successful and sustainable downtown with a distinct sense of place; and WHEREAS, the Town Council believes that a positive first step is to conduct the preliminary design of the King Street Corridor to implement a pedestrian oriented area; and WHEREAS, funds totaling $75,000 are available in the Economic Development Opportunity Fund are available for use and will not negatively affect the tax rate. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: The Town Council hereby approves the transfer of $75,000 from Economic Development Opportunity Funds to the Capital Improvements Fund to conduct a preliminary design for the King Street Corridor Project.
