A RESOLUTION: TO DEVELOP A FENCED % ACRE DOG PARK WITHIN THE EXISTING
BOUNDARIES OF OLDE IZAAK W ALTON PARK.
WHEREAS, on March 11,2008, the Town Council directed staff to evaluate sites within the
existing parks system that could accommodate a dog park and be constructed within the remaining
proffered funds of $18,000 as identified in FY2009 CIP Budget; and
WHEREAS, staff evaluated various sites and concluded that a % acre parcel located within
Olde Izaak Walton Park could be developed into a dog park within the identified budget and not
conflict with other park uses or neighbors; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission unanimously endorsed the
development ofa dog park to be located within Olde Izaak Walton Park.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows:
SECTION I. A % acre fenced dog park is to be developed at Olde Izaak Walton Park with
construction costs not to exceed the identified proffered funds of$18,570 identified in the FY2009
CIP budget.
SECTION II. The Town will establish a working relationship with a non-profit Friends
Group, seek private sponsorships, and make the dog park available for rental to the public in order to
offset a portion of the operational costs.
