A RESOLUTION: ENDORSING THE APPLICATION AND AUTHORIZING THE
TOWN MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL OF THE
DOCUMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE APPLICATION FOR
THE NRPA ACHIEVE HEAL THY COMMUNITIES GRANT
WHEREAS, the Town Council encourages the creation and development of a
healthy community within its corporate boundaries by providing a wide variety of health
improving opportunities for its residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, in an effort to continue the creation of a healthy community within
the Town, the Town Council hereby endorses the Healthy Lifestyle goal of the Strategic
Plan for the Town Parks and Recreation Department, "To become a proactive educator of
the Leesburg community about the benefits of physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle and
to promote those benefits through quality recreation programs, services, and facilities";
and
WHEREAS, the Action Communities for Health, Innovation and EnVironmental
ChangE (ACHIEVE) initiative provides an opportunity for the Town to obtain grant
funding to address the chronic disease risk factors of physical inactivity, poor nutrition,
and tobacco use at the policy, systems and environmental change level; and
WHEREAS, the grant funding would cover the cost of the health related
programming and projects highlighted in the grant application, with no additional funding
required from the Town.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia
as follows:

THE 2008 NRP A ACHIEVE HEAL THY COMMUNITIES
GRANT
SECTION I. The Town Council endorses the application to obtain grant funding
through the ACHIEVE initiative to supplement the Town's continuing efforts to create
and maintain a healthy community.
SECTION II. The Town Manager is authorized to execute any and all of the
documents associated with the grant.
SECTION III. The Town of Leesburg is hereby willing to share the lessons
learned from the grant funded health related programs and projects with the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA),
national partners, and other local affiliates.
