Leesburg Receives Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for
25th Straight Year
Leesburg, VA (September 10, 2012) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has
awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Town of
Leesburg for its Fiscal Year 2011 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Leesburg has
received this award for twenty-five consecutive years.
The GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant
accomplishment by a government organization and its management. In order to receive the
certificate, the Town’s CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the
GFOA’s program, including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly
communicate the Town’s financial story.
“With my background in budget and financial management, I am particularly proud of our
Finance Department’s outstanding work to receive this award,” commented John Wells,
Leesburg’s Town Manager. “The difference between this award and the budget award is that
the budget tells what we’re planning to do. The CAFR shows what the Town actually did during
the past fiscal year, from a financial standpoint. Producing an award-winning CAFR would not
be possible without the year-round efforts and attention to detail of the Town’s Finance staff.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving
over 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America.
