International Widows Day
WHEREAS, International Widows Day, June 23, is recognized throughout the United
States and around the world; and
WHEREAS, International Widows Day serves to raise awareness of the needs and plight of
widows and their families globally, nationally, and locally in order to give them a voice to
be heard, seen, understood, and served; and
WHEREAS, by giving them this recognition and a voice, this shall enable and empower them
to discover all that is available to them in order move forward, rebuild their purposeful and
meaningful lives with the support of the communities and country in which they reside;
and
WHEREAS, ensuring awareness, education, resources, and supportive communities
recognizes the crucial needs in their lives and helps build additional services, programs,
initiatives, outreach, research, education, and community involvement from all those
within our city, state, and nation to ensure widows and their families become thriving and
vital members of society at large.
WHEREAS, on June 23, 2023, the Modern Widows Club of the Bothell area will observe
International Widows Day to honor our local community of widows; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mason Thompson, Mayor of the City of Bothell, do hereby
proclaim June 23, 2023 to be “International Widows Day” in the City of Bothell, and I
encourage all to join me in raising awareness of the need for advocacy, mentoring, and
leadership for women in widowhood.
