HomeMy Public PortalAbout2009_05_12_R055 - Amendments to the ZO - Recreational Facility Uses in the I-1 The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED May 12, 2009 ADOPTED May 12,2009 RESOLUTION NO.: 2009-055 A RESOLUTION : INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO SECTION 6.7.2 AND SECTION 9.3.18 OF THE LEESBURG ZONING ORDINANCE TO ALLOW RECREATIONAL FACILITY USES IN THE I-I DISTRICT SUBJECT TO SPECIFIC USE STANDARDS WHEREAS, the Town Council is supportive of providing enhanced recreational opportunities within the Town for citizens and visitors to Leesburg; and WHEREAS, in 2003 the recreation facility use was removed from the list of permitted uses in the I-I, Industrial/Research Park Zoning District in furtherance of the objectives of the 1997 Town Plan; and WHEREAS, the 2005 Town Plan encourages the adaptive reuse of existing buildings in the I-I District; and WHEREAS, allowing a recreational facility use subject to specific use standards in the I-I District will provide enhanced redevelopment opportunities in accordance with the 2005 Town Plan; and WHEREAS, the public necessity, convenience, general welfare and good zoning practice require the proposed amendments. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. Amendments to Zoning Ordinance Section 6.7.2 and Section 9.3.18 are hereby initiated and referred to the Planning Commission to establish a recreational facility as a use in the I-I District subject to specific use standards. -2- RESOLUTION: INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO ZONING ORDINANCE SECTION 6.7.2 AND SECTION 9.3.18 SECTION II. The Planning Commission shall hold a public hearing to consider these amendments to the Zoning Ordinance, and report its recommendation to the Town Council pursuant to Chapter 22, Title 15.2-2204 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended.
