PROCLAMATION
National Disability Independence Day

discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools,
transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public; and
WHEREAS, the Americans with Disabilities Act seeks to ensure that all people, regardless of
ability status, are included fully in all aspects of daily life; and

disabilities and disability justice advocates must continue to work towards a world in which
ableism does not create barriers which impede individuals from participating fully in and enjoying
all that our community has to offer; and
WHEREAS, the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act is celebrated as
National Disability Independence Day and offers an opportunity to recognize the contributions of
people with disabilities to the rich tapestry that is our community; and

transportation, and provide education on various resources to allow all individuals to recreate
safely and freely regardless of their abilities.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mason Thompson, Mayor of the City of Bothell, do hereby proclaim July
26th, 2023 to be National Disability Independence Day in the City of Bothell, to celebrate all that
