808.19 SUBJECT: CITY EMPLOYEES RUNNING FOR ELECTIVE OFFICES
:1 OBJECTIVE:
Establish policy regarding employment of City personnel running for City elective
office.
:2 AUTHORITY:
This procedure amended by the City Council September 15, 2003; amended City
Council April 27, 2009.
:3 DIRECTION:
Department Directors, Office Heads, Division Managers, Supervisors.
:4 POLICY:
Any non-elected City employee, not otherwise governed by Section 99.012(7) F.S., who
wishes to run for City elected office must either resign from City employment or take a
leave of absence without pay in lieu of resignation, with said resignation or leave to
begin no later than the date the employee formally qualifies as a candidate. Employees
may use compensatory time or accrued leave (other than sick leave) during any leave of
absence pursuant to this section.
