HomeMy Public PortalAbout2009_05_27_R063 - Revised Scope of Work for North King Street Drainage Improvements The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED May 27,2009 RESOLUTION NO. 2009-063 ADOPTED May 27.2009 A RESOLUTION: APPROVING A REVISION TO THE SCOPE OF WORK FOR THE NORTH KING STREET STORM DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT WHEREAS, in 2004, residents living along the west side of North King Street between Union Street and Union Cemetery requested the Town to consider the construction of storm drainage improvements; and WHEREAS, Town Council approved the FY 2005-2009 CIP to include funding for a storm drainage study in this area; and WHEREAS, the drainage study was completed in 2006 and the solution was to extend the proposed North King Street Storm Drainage Improvements project from Union Street to Union Cemetery; and WHEREAS, Town Council approved the FY 2008-2012 CIP to include these improvements in the list of "Potential Future Capital Projects"; and WHEREAS, these improvements were not added to the scope of work for the North King Street Storm Drainage Improvements project because of the necessity to remove two large specimen ash trees in front of 307 North King Street which delineated the "gateway" to the historic district of Town; and WHEREAS, during the tree removal phase of the North King Street Storm Drainage Improvements project, the Town's Urban Forester and the contractor's arborist determined that the two large ash trees in front of 307 North King Street needed to be removed due to deterioration, impact of root pruning necessary for waterline installation and the potential for emerald ash borer disease; and - 2- A RESOLUTION: APPROVING A REVISION TO THE SCOPE OF WORK FOR THE NORTH KING STREET DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT WHEREAS, in light of the removal ofthese two trees, residents renewed their request that the Town install a sidewalk and curb/gutter and construct a storm drain from Union Street to Ida Lee Park; and WHEREAS, the scope of work for the North King Street Storm Drainage Improvements project must be revised and the project budget must be increased in the amount of $250,000; and WHEREAS, the revised work would include curb and gutter from Union Street to the Ida Lee Park trail that is immediately adjacent to Union Cemetery, storm drain pipe and inlets along North King Street from Union Cemetery tying into the North King Street Storm Drainage Improvements project at Union Street, brick sidewalk from Union Street (heading north) to just past the last house (309) on North King Street and asphalt trail from the end of the brick sidewalk to the Ida Lee Park trail. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Lees burg in Virginia that the scope of work for the North King Street Storm Drainage Improvements project budget be increased by $250,000 and the scope ofthe project be revised to include curb/gutter, storm drainage, brick sidewalk, and asphalt trail from Union Street to the Ida Lee Park trail.
