A RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING SUBMISSION OF A FAIRFAX WATER GRANT
APPLICATION BY PEC AND CWP TO PROVIDE A BETTER SITE
DESIGN WORKSHOP FOR THE TOWN.
WHEREAS, the PIEDMONT ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL (PEC) was established in
1972 to promote and protect Virginia's rural economy, natural resources, history and beauty; and
WHEREAS, PEC as a leading advocate for land conservation and natural resources
management and has secured watershed planning and improvement grants in the past that have
benefitted the Town; and
WHEREAS, the Center for Watershed Protection (CWP) is a nationally recognized non-
profit organization that has developed leading guidance to communities on how to improve land
use planning decisions to prevent and reduce impacts of development on water quality and
quantity; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council adopted Resolution 2007-89 endorsing the
recommendations of the Leesburg Watershed Committee in December of 2007 including
authorizing the Town to seek grants for watershed planning and improvement; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Better Site Design Workshop will result in land development
that better minimizes and mitigates its impact on Town streams: and
WHEREAS, the Town believes that this is an excellent opportunity for further
partnerships with local organizations to improve the health of our watersheds and provide
training opportunities for staff.

A RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING A FAIRFAX WATER GRANT APPLICATION BY PEC AND
CWP TO PROVIDE A BETTER SITE DESIGN WORKSHOP FOR THE
TOWN.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as
follows: To demonstrate the Town's commitment to maintain and improve the health of our
watersheds, Council supports the Fairfax Water grant application by PEC and CWP to provide a
Better Site Design Workshop.
PASSED this 9th day of June 2009.
