PROCLAMATION
Welcoming Week
WHEREAS, our community’s success depends on making sure that all Bothell residents feel welcome here
and today new Bothell residents are a vital part of our community — bringing fresh perspectives and new
ideas, starting businesses, and contributing to the vibrant diversity that we all value; and
WHEREAS, Welcoming Week gives us the opportunity to honor the spirit of unity that brings
neighbors together across Bothell and invites us to work together towards a prosperous and
welcoming Bothell in which diverse people from all across the world feel valued and want to put
down roots; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bothell will celebrate its first annual Welcoming Week in 2023 to promote
compassion, unity, and respect, with a shared vision that all community members are valued and
protected; and
WHEREAS, the City Council’s 2040 Vision says “for a day or a lifetime, no matter who you are or
where you’ve come from, Bothell is everyone’s hometown” and celebrating Welcoming Week is a
step towards enacting that vision; and
WHEREAS, our City recognizes and celebrates all that makes us unique, including our rich
tapestry of ethnicities, religious beliefs, abilities, gender identities, sexual orientations,
nationalities, neurodiversity, and life experiences; and
WHEREAS, each Bothell resident has a unique role to play, one that no one else can fill, adding to
the culture and shared wellbeing of this place we all call home; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mason Thompson, Mayor of the City of Bothell, do hereby proclaim
September 8-17 2023 to be Welcoming Week in the City of Bothell and call on every community
member to reach across lines of difference and participate in one or more of the Welcoming
Week events put on by our community. We also call on business leaders, civic groups, agencies,
and community institutions to undertake their own initiatives, alongside the City of Bothell,
beyond Welcoming Week to make the region a more welcoming place for every new and long-
term community member alike.
