HomeMy Public PortalAbout09192023 Hispanic Heritage Month _______________________________ Mason Thompson, Mayor PROCLAMATION Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month WHEREAS, each year from September 15th to October 15th, National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed by celebrating the culture, heritage, and countless contributions of those whose ancestors were Indigenous to North, Central, and South America, Mexican, the Caribbean, and Spain; and WHEREAS, the day of September 15th is culturally significant as the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, while Mexico, Chile, and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16th, 18th, and 21st respectively; and WHEREAS, we know that Hispanic and Latino heritage is a vital part of our City’s heritage, and we see their indelible footprints in significant and diverse contributions to the cultural, educational, economic, and political vitality of our community; and WHEREAS, the City of Bothell recognizes the significant contributions of our Hispanic city staff members, as well as the numerous community organizations and outreach groups that help increase cultural awareness, education, enrichment, and community engagement with our residents; and WHEREAS, we honor the invaluable ways Hispanic and Latino Americans who live, work, learn, and visit throughout Bothell influence and enrich our community, and reaffirm our commitment to addressing the barriers to opportunity that many still face. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mason Thompson, Mayor of the City of Bothell, do hereby proclaim September 15th through October 15th Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Bothell, and invite all to celebrate the rich diversity of the Hispanic and Latino communities and the many ways they contribute to our City.
