HomeMy Public PortalAboutAll Citizens Access -- 2009-01-16 MinutesALL CITIZENS ACCESS COMMITTEE OF BREWSTER JANUARY 16, 2009 MEETING MINUTES Meeting began at 2pm at COA. Members present: Christine Glasheen, Jean Sears, Brian Ladley, Robert Steinmann, Maureen Steinmann, and James Geisler, advocate. Members not present: Marge Geisler, Heidi Geisler. We acknowledged prior acceptance of November 21, 2008 meeting notes, noting that our December meeting was cancelled due to a snow storm. The Chair said that the survey sheets have been removed from downstairs in the Brewster Ladies Library and from the COA. The survey will continue to be ongoing and can be requested at the COA, the Library, or through our committee. The Chair wrote a letter to Ardeo's thanking them for paving their handicap parking area. Now is the time to write up a summary of our committee's activities for the past year to be included in the 2008 Town of Brewster book. Christine and Maureen offered to take care of that. Also discussed was how best to present our recommendations re accessibility to the Town Manager. We decided not to wait until we had done all the reviews as we all felt that it would take too long. We decided, therefore, to pass along our recommendations for both the Town Hall and the Council on Aging. It was noted that town management has already installed automatic door openers on both buildings as well as interior and exterior safety indicators at Town Hall's main entrance. Brian notified us that CORD (Cape Organization for the Disabled) will be having an open house at its new location in Hyannis on January 30th. All are welcome. Brian also showed us an article from the Sandwich News re handicap parking. Jim noted that handicap plates are now given out only to disabled veterans. Jim also noted that the information booth at Nickerson State Park is not accessible. Maybe our committee will check this out and see what can be done to make it accessible. Lastly, the committee discussed our on-site review information re Town Hall and talked about our recommendations. Maureen will summarize this discussion for our next meeting. It was noted that copies of the ACAC's final reports will be sent to all department heads as well as the town selectmen. Our next meeting will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 2pm. Meeting adjourned at 3: l Opm. ' i ~1.~ i.iJ_I '.'~. Respectfully submitted by Maureen Steinmann.
