Members acknowledged acceptance of October 16, 2009 meeting minutes. The committee had an unexpected visitor from CORD (Cape Organization for the Rights of the Disabled)-- Alison Kirwin, CORD's outreach and systems advocate. This is a new position in CORD through which CORD hopes to strengthen its ties with the handicap committees in the various cape towns as well as be a support and resource center for them. Alison said she will attend our next meeting on December 18t" to describe in more detail the types of things CORD can assist our committee with. The committee unanimously voted to adopt as its mission statement the one used by the Barnstable Disability Commission: The mission of the Brewster All Citizens Access Committee is to advise and guide the Town of Brewster and the general public regarding issues of accessibility in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This mission statement along with the names and other pertinent information of committee members will be given to Kathy Lambert at Town Hall who will set up the new web page for our committee on Brewster's town website. The committee discussed a letter written to the Brewster Historical Society re their future move to the COA building. It asks the Society to be aware of accessibility issues when t)~eyare planning their displays and offers our assistance. The Chair will mail the letter next week. The Chair talked about the consolidation of the town's facilities and establishment of the new Town Hall at the Eddy School. The committee wants to make sure that the town is aware of accessibility needs when renovating the Eddy School--especially the need for an automatic door opener. It was also suggested that a "unisex " or "family-style" bathroom facility, if possible, be one of the bathrooms available to summer visitors, wherever they are to be located. The Chair will prepare and send a letter to the Town Manager outlining the committee's suggestions. The Chair mentioned the Sight Loss Services Open House on 12/10/09 in W. Dennis. Parking at the COA was very limited today due to COA activities. If it continues to be a problem, we might seek another meeting site. The meeting adjourned at 3:45 pm. Our next meeting is December 18, 2009. Respectfully submitted by Maureen Steinmann. ~: ~~ - ~, ,....:. ....,_.i ~..r.~ :~, `.~i:
