Members present: Jean Sears, Christine Glasheen, Brian Ladley, Robert Steinmann, Maureen Steinmann and James Geisler, advocate. Members acknowledged acceptance of November 20, 2009 meeting minutes. Alison Kirwin from CORD spoke to the committee about la~ex position as the Outreach and Systems advocate. Her position is a new one established by CORD to enable better communications/support between CORD and the handicap committees in the cape towns as well as to promote better communications/support among the handicap committees themselves. She spoke about CORD's involvement, and, specifically about her roll, in protecting/providing services for people with disabilities. Alison keeps up to date on legislative actions affecting those with disabilities and will pass information along to the handicap committees. She spoke of the role the ADA Coordinator that each town has-- Brewster's is Jillian Douglass. Alison also gave our committee a copy of the ADA Guide for Small Towns. It was mentioned that for the last town meeting, there were no large print warrants available. The Chair will check into the matter and ask that there be some for the next town meeting. The committee will inform the public via the Cape Codder re the availability of the CART system and large print warrants. The Latham School contacted the Chair re accessibility issues at their older building on their Brewster campus. Bob and Maureen Steinmann and Brian Ladley will meet with Ann McManus, the Executive Director, and other members of Latham Center's Accessibility Advisory Board on January 27, 2010 at 2pm in their library. It was decided that our ACAC web site will include our mission statement, names of the members and their terms on the committee, the time, place and date of our meetings, and the home telephone numbers of Maureen Steinmann and Jean Sears. Also included will be news regarding ongoing projects as well as our survey of 2008. After many years of serving on the ACAC, Marge Geisler has decided to resign from the committee. Marge will remain active in her commitment to people who have disabilities by joining her husband, Jim, as an advocate on their behalf. Meeting adjourned at 3pm.
