HomeMy Public PortalAboutArchives Committee -- 2009-04-06 Minutes MINUTES OF THE BREWSTER ARCHIVES COMMITTEE MEETING APRIL 6, 2009 Present: Ellen St. Sure, Pat Busch, Kathleen Remillard, Mitzi Unger, Ellen Davies Kathleen Remillard presiding. The meeting was called to order at 10:05 am. The corrected minutes of the April 6 meeting were approved. Transfer of Historic Documents from First Parish to the Town Hall vault. Elenita Munoz, past president of First Parish attended the meeting to represent the Church as the current president, Tavia Ossola is out of town. We decided that, pending Tavia's availability, the event would be scheduled for May 7 between 11 am and 3 pm. Alternative dates are May 8, 11, and 12. Mitzi will call the CC Times reporter. Elenita will report back to the Brewster Meeting House Preservation Project and they plan to organize a small ceremony and/or procession to carry the documents from the Church to the Town Hall. Ellen S. suggested that it would be a good idea to focus on a specific document of interest for the publicity. Ellen D. suggested using the sheepskin covered "Book of Records -First Parish Precinct in Harwich 1747-1815." Elenita will confirm the date with Tavia when she returns and relay the information to Mitzi. Elenita and Mitzi will coordinate on the publicity. Check for Thompson Printine Mitzi confirmed that a check for $250, representing the donation to the Mass Memories Road Show from the Brewster Cultural Council, was paid by the Town to Thompson in February. New Business Ellen S. questioned the use of putting digitized material on the Internet. She has visited sites that contain historic documents that appear to be little used. She suggested that instead of making our digitized materials available on a website, we make CD's available on request. Kathleen noted that the state of MA sponsors a website called Digital Commonwealth and that at least some of the Sturgis Library documents already appear there. Eventually we might consider putting Brewster documents on that site. There was a generalized discussion as to whether and for how long CPA funds will be available, given the financial straits of the state of MA. Ellen S. noted that if the funds do dry up, our committee will become more important in the effort to preserve and make available Brewster's historical documents. The next meeting was scheduled for May 4 at 10 am in the Library. The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 am. Ellen Davies Acting Clerk rn ~~ =; ._a -~ i -~, .. --a J aW ~ W
