RESOLUTION NO. 2010-029 ADOPTED March 9, 2010
A RESOLUTION: OPPOSING THE ELIMINATION OF FUNDING FOR THE VIRGINIA
COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS
WHEREAS, the arts are a vital component of a healthy economy, improving the quality
of life in our communities, adding jobs and attracting visitors; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Commission for the Arts grants program is an important source
of funding for local arts activities; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia House of Delegates has proposed to eliminate funding for the
Virginia Commission for the Arts in the FY 2011-2012 biennium budget for the Commonwealth;
and
WHEREAS, the elimination of the Virginia Commission for the Arts would make the
Commonwealth of Virginia the only state in the nation without an arts commission; and
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that it
opposes the elimination of funding for the Virginia Commission for the Arts and urges the
Virginia General Assembly to continue to fund this important arts support program.
