HomeMy Public PortalAboutBuilding & Needs Assessment -- 2009-06-03 MinutesBuilding Needs & Assessment Committee June 3, 2009 Call to Order Herb Montgomery called to order the regular meeting of the Brewster Building Needs & Assessment Committee at 7:00 pm on June 3, 2009 in Brewster Town Hall. Roll call The following persons were present: Herb Montgomery, Robert Miller, Charles Sumner, Richard Kosinski, Paul Bradford, Ed Lewis, Greg Levasseur TLCR Architecture -Santiago A. Rozas & Patrick Mulvey-Welch Mid-size firm with 9 employees. Patrick Mulvey-Welsh who is~ a partner and will serve as the project manage. The firm was farmed in 1982 and has done a lot of work doing public educational facilities largely in Massachusetts. Many of their projects are additions to existing buildings, several are stand-alone structures. They work to make the space comfortable and pleasant to create an enjoyable environment. Possible use of paralyzed structure or fabricated systems. They feel that they can maintain the town's tight schedule. They also have knowledge of managing construction while school is in session. They discussed the idea of the connecting corridor intersecting the center of the buildings. They do recommend reviewing the building program. They presented a thorough project design schedule that addressed the town's time requirements. Patrick did mention that the bidding climate is quite good at the moment. TLCR tries to make buildings very stimulating for the students, by using interesting colors and shapes. Turowski• Architecture -Peter Turowski Peter Turowski, Principal of the firm uses a collaborative approach. While the firm is only 2 years old they have significant experience with the number of staff that has a lot of prior experience in other companies. They are a small firm who will have hands on approach to their projects. They did present a series of design ideas based upon a site visit this past weekend. They did like the idea of a central access to the addition. They also mentioned a two story scheme, which might present some advantages. Solar orientation was also an interesting concept and made a nice presentation on project estimate versus final cost. They are currently working on open contract with Bridgewater State College on facility improvements. They also clearly maintained creating equality relative to the original structure. Important to look at the proposed program for the additional proposal. The next committee meeting is scheduled for June 4, 200~~atr7~0 ~'m~ll~ ~~.
