HomeMy Public PortalAbout2010_06_22_R069 General Assembly LawsThe Town of ~~~~~~~~ RESOLUTION NO. 2010-069 PRESENTED June 22.2010 ADOPTED June 22.2010 A RESOLUTION: INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO THE TOWN CODE TO ADDRESS CHANGES IN STATE LAW ENACTED BY HOUSE BILLS 82, 350 AND 682 DURING THE 2010 SESSION OF THE VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY WHEREAS, certain bills passed during the 2010 session of the Virginia General Assembly require amendments to the Town Code in order for the Town to remain compliant with state law; and WHEREAS, the first of these. bills is House Bill 82 which allows localities to establish civil penalties for violations of local ordinances prohibiting the introduction of pollutants and wastes into the public sewer system; and WHEREAS, the second bill is House Bi11350 which grants localities the power to regulate and prohibit the distribution of handbills and sale of services on highways, public roadways and medians; and WHEREAS, the last of these bills is House Bill 682 which expands the definition of "gang-free zones" to include any publicly owned or operated community center or recreational center. THEREFORE RESOLVED, the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia directs the Town Attorney to prepare a draft ordinance to amend the appropriate chapters of the Town Code to address the changes in state law enacted by House Bills 82, 350 and 682 of the 2010 session of the Virginia General Assembly.
