Home My Public Portal About2010_11_09_R145 - 2011 CDBG ApplicationThe Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED November 9, 2010 RESOLUTION NO. 2010 -145 ADOPTED November 9, 2010 A RESOLUTION: ENDORSING THE FY 2011 -2012 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE PLAZA STREET SIDEWALK PROJECT WHEREAS, pedestrian safety throughout the Town of Leesburg is an important element of Leesburg's comprehensive Town Plan and the Town Council vision; and WHEREAS, the Town is eligible for funding through the Community Development Block Grant program for projects that improve the quality of life in the Town, particularly for low- and moderate income residents; and WHEREAS, the Plaza Street sidewalk is an identified missing link in the Town's pedestrian and is listed in the current Capital Improvements Program as grant dependent; and WHEREAS, the total project cost is estimated at $350,000 and Town staff recommend providing 20% matching funds in order to make the grant application competitive. THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. The Town Council endorses the FY 2011 -2012 application for a Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $280,000 for the construction of a sidewalk on the west side of Plaza Street from the Leesburg Public Safety Center to Edwards Ferry Road. SECTION II. The Town of Leesburg hereby agrees to provide a minimum of $70,000 towards this project which will be appropriated in the Capital Improvements Budget the year the project is implemented. SECTION III. The Town Council desires to construct the project within existing right -of- way in order to preserve existing street trees. SECTION IV. The Town Manager is authorized to execute any and all documents associated with this grant. ATTEST: PASSED this 9 day of November, 2010.
