HomeMy Public PortalAbout2011_03_08_R024 Initiating Amendment to the TC - Blighted BuildingsThe Town of Leesburg, Virginia Clerk of *Nil P:\Resolutiogs\Reutions 2011 \0308 Initiating TC Amendment Blighted Buildings.doc PRESENTED March 8, 2011 RESOLUTION NO. 2011 -024 ADOPTED March 8, 2011 A RESOLUTION: INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO THE TOWN CODE IN ORDER TO EFFECTUATE THE REMOVAL OR REPAIR OF BLIGHTED, DILAPIDATED OR DERELICT STRUCTURES WITHIN THE TOWN WHEREAS, the Town Council is supportive of providing additional tools and knowledge to enhance the Town's effectiveness regarding the removal, abatement and/or repair of blighted, dilapidated or derelict buildings within the Town; and WHEREAS, the General Assembly in 2009 amended several sections of the Code of Virginia of 1950, as amended, as part of its "Derelict Building Legislation to enable localities to better address blighted, dilapidated or derelict buildings within their borders; and WHEREAS, the Town Council desires to abate these blighted, dilapidated or derelict buildings in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the Town and protect property values within the Town; and WHEREAS, the public necessity, convenience, and general welfare of the Town require the proposed amendments. THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that amendments to the Town Code regarding the abatement of blighted, dilapidated or deteriorated buildings within the Town are hereby initiated, as well as any other policies and procedures that should be set forth in order to accomplish the abatement of blighted, dilapidated or deteriorated buildings within the Town.
