Leesburg Town Council Member Katie Hammler Re-Elected As
Virginia Municipal League Town Section Chair
Leesburg, VA (September 26, 2012) – At the Virginia Municipal
League (VML) annual conference in Williamsburg this week,
Leesburg Town Council Member Katie Hammler was unanimously
re-elected by Towns throughout the Commonwealth as the Town
Section Chair. In this position, Ms. Hammler represents the
Towns on VML’s Executive Committee. Susan Anderson,
Blacksburg Town Council Member, was elected Vice Chair of the
Town Section at the same meeting.
"I am honored that VML Towns re-elected me to represent them
on the VML Executive Committee for another year,” said Ms.
Hammler. “There has never been a more important time for
Towns to work closely with the General Assembly. We are seeing
increases in unfunded mandates and decreases in state aid to localities, combined with a lack
of sustainable funding for priority state services, such as transportation. VML works diligently
and professionally to lobby our State elected leaders to provide real solutions versus passing on
the bills to local Town taxpayers."
The Virginia Municipal League is a statewide, non-profit, non-partisan association of city, town
and county governments established in 1905 to improve and assist local governments through
legislative advocacy, research, education and other services. The membership includes all 39
cities in the Commonwealth, 159 towns and ten counties.
