AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER PRESENT: Mayor Brad Andersen, Council members Scott Long, Steve Elliott, Clip Holverson, Dennis McArthur, City Clerk Betty McKinlay VISITORS: Kurt Hibbert, Nancy Long, Jerry Hansen, Bruce Case, Brian Sturtman Mayor Andersen introduced Kurt Hibbert. Mr. Hibbert is a Community Development Specialist. Mr. Hibbert discussed the possibility of helping the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council in compiling a Comprehensive Plan for the City of Iona. Mr. Hibbert has done several Comprehensive Plans for cities around the area. He defined a Comprehensive Plan as a vision of where the City of Iona wants to go in the future. It takes anywhere from 8 months to 18 months to do the plan. A survey goes out to the citizens to get their input and vision of what they want to see done. Planning is the value to the community. The Planning and Zoning Commission asked questions as did the Council. Mr. Hibbert said we should be concerned about the density north and east of us. Goals and policies are the most important to support what values we want as a community. Mr. Hibbert suggested getting involved with the County letting them know our concerns. We need to decide if we want to be a "go through downtown" or a "go to downtown". Mr. Hibbert said if he was hired he would have the Comprehensive Plan completed by fall. He said that 14 points have to be addressed and he is willing to help us. Mr. Hibbert wrote up a draft of contract for the Mayor and Council to read. Mayor Andersen said that we could give him our decision at our next Council Meeting next week. Mr. Hibbert suggested writing down common values. He suggested looking at Victor's and Rigby's Comprehensive Plan on the Internet.
