RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A SAFETY BELT ENFORCEMENT
DEMONSTRATION GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY
TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret through the Department of Public Safety
submitted a request for a Seat Belt Law Enforcement Demonstration Grant to the
New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Highway Traffic
Safety; and
WHEREAS, on November 2, 1995, the Division of Highway Safety for the State
Department of Law and Public Safety awarded a demonstration grant of $5,600.00
to the Borough of Carteret for a period of time coveting September 1, 1995 through
December 31, 1996 subject to acceptance by the Governing Body; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Safety for the Borough of Carteret
recommends the Governing Body accept the grant permitting uniformed Police
Officers to work on an overtime basis to implement the Demonstration Grant and
provide additional safety to Carteret residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Borough Council of the
Borough of Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey that in accordance
with a request made by the Department of Public Safety and notification from the
State of New Jersey Division of I-Iighway Traffic Safety that a grant in the amount of
$5,600.00 is made available by the National Highway Safety Administration that said
grant is hereby accepted.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Demonstration Grant will be part of the
1996 budget permitting the Department of Public Safety to comply with the grant
requirements and to improve the health, safety and welfare of the Borough of Carteret
residents who traverse the roadways.
