RESOLUTION NO. 2011 -103 ADOPTED August 30, 2011
A RESOLUTION: TOWN COUNCIL RECOGNIZES AND SUPPORTS THE TOUR DES TREES
EVENT ON OCTOBER 7, 2011, AND AUTHORIZES STAFF TO WORK WITH
THE TOUR SPONSORS TO CONDUCT THE PROGRAM AND TO INCUR
EXPENSES UP TO $200.00 IN SUPPORT OF THE EVENT
WHEREAS, the Tree Fund is a nationally recognized source of funding for research and educational
programs in the field of arboriculture; and
WHEREAS, the Tree Fund, along with numerous private companies, is sponsoring the Tour des
Trees, a seven -day, 485 -mile, bicycling event through Virginia to promote tree research and educational
programs; and
WHEREAS, the Tree Commission supports the efforts of the Tree Fund, and includes as part of its
mission, the promotion of public tree planting and education; and
WHEREAS, the Town staff is responsible for implementing the Town's Urban Forestry
Plan; and
WHEREAS, the cost to participate will not exceed $200.00 and is available in the current
Forestry Service line item in the FY2012 budget.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the Council
recognizes and supports the Tour des Trees event on October 7, 2011, and authorizes staff to work with the
tour sponsors to conduct the program and to incur expenses up to $200.00 in support of the event.
