A RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING FUNDING TO PROVIDE THE LOCAL MATCH TO
VIRGINIA REGIONAL TRANSIT FOR BUS SHELTERS INSTALLED
BY VIRGINIA REGIONAL TRANSIT
WHEREAS, the Virginia Regional Transit (VRT) installs and maintains bus shelters
along their bus routes in the Town of Leesburg; and
WHEREAS, bus shelters provide shelter during harsh weather and improve commuter
comfort; and
WHEREAS, VRT has developed a list of prioritized locations for bus shelters for the
three (3) bus routes that operate within the Town of Leesburg (these are listed in a memo dated
January 13, 2012); and
WHEREAS, the list was endorsed by the Town Council at their work session on
February 27, 2012; and
WHEREAS, VRT obtains grant funds from Federal and State sources to construct bus
shelters which requires a 10% local match; and
WHEREAS, VRT requests funding from private landowners for the 10% match for bus
shelters constructed on their property; and
WHEREAS, some private landowners or sponsors are not willing to contribute the 10%
match; and
WHEREAS, the Town can contribute the 10% match if VRT has exhausted all efforts to
obtain the match from landowners.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the
Town of Leesburg shall contribute the 10% matching funds up to a maximum of $8,000.00 to

VRT for bus shelters within the Town of Leesburg and the Town manager will set up a team to
work with VRTA to expedite completion of the bus shelters.
