HomeMy Public PortalAbout2012_05_22_R058 Master Plans for 16 Town ParksThe Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED ME 22, 2012 RESOLUTION NO. 2012 -058 ADOPTED Mav 22, 2012 A RESOLUTION: APPROVING MASTER PLANS FOR 16 TOWN OWNED AND OPERATED PARKS WHEREAS, only three of the Town's 16 public parks have been previously, formally master planned; and WHEREAS, master plans are considered an essential tool in park and recreation management, for funding, planning development, and operation of a community's recreational assets and resources; and WHEREAS, in late 2011, a need was determined to develop new plans for the 13 sites that have never had a formal plan, and to update the previously approved plans for the other three sites; and WHEREAS, staff initiated data collection, developed ideas for possible new initiatives, and solicited public input regarding possible changes, additions, or deletions to the facilities and features that currently exist in the parks; and WHEREAS, the results of these efforts were then presented in draft form to, and endorsed by, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission; and WHEREAS, the draft plans were subsequently presented on April 5, 2012 to the Planning Commission, as an informational item; and WHEREAS, a presentation was made at the Town Council Work Session on May 7, 2012 for Town Council to review and comment on the individual plans; and WHEREAS, Town Council members did not request any significant changes in the plans as presented at their work session; and -2- A RESOLUTION: APPROVING MASTER PLANS FOR 16 TOWN OWNED AND OPERATED PARKS WHEREAS, there is no financial impact or commitment, nor effect on current service levels, associated with the adoption of Master Plans for the 16 Town parks; and WHEREAS, Council desires further exploration of the historical resources at Veteran's Park at Balls Bluff before design is completed for this site. THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the Master Plans for the 16 Town parks (Brandon Park, Carrvale Park, Catoctin Skate Park, Edwards Landing Park, Freedom Park, Foxridge Park, Georgetown Park, Greenway Park, Ida Lee Park, Olde Izaak Walton Park, Potomac Crossing Park, Raflo Park, Robinson Park, Rotary Park, Tuscarora Creek Park, and Veteran's Park at Balls Bluff) are approved as presented.
