Vote for Your Favorite ArtsPARKs Sculpture in Raflo Park!
The Friends of Leesburg Public Art will present the People’s Choice Best
Sculpture Award at the 2019 Flower & Garden Festival.
Leesburg, VA (March 18, 2019) –
The Leesburg Commission on Public
Art (COPA) and Friends of Leesburg
Public Arts (FOLPA) wants to know
which ArtsPARKs sculpture is your
favorite. The trail winding through
Raflo Park along Harrison Street is
home to a new set of five modern
artworks that will remain on display
until June 2020.
Members of the public are invited
to tour the exhibit and vote for their
favorites to win the People’s Choice
Award. The winner will be
announced at the Leesburg Flower
& Garden Show on Saturday, April
27, 2019.
Coming into the park from the
W&OD Trail, the first sculpture is “Kool Dudes” by Jim Koenig, which portrays figures created
from locally sourced cedar, skateboards, and other found objects. The next piece, “Rural
Landscape,” by Brian Kirk, displays the artist’s appreciation for living in rural western Loudoun.
Peter Wood’s sculpture, “The Brew,” is just across the walkway. This work is an assemblage of
objects that portray the varying aspects and experiences that make up an individual. “Phoenix,”
also by Wood, reminds us that we will rise up out of ashes and continue on, more beautiful
than before. Finally, at the south end of the park is “Pollinator,” by Michael M. Clay, which is a
visual representation of the symbiotic relationships and mutualism found in nature.
The sculptures are available for purchase. Twenty percent of the proceeds will be invested in
the ArtsPARKs program, paving the way for new artists to exhibit their work in subsequent
years.

The ArtsPARKs Sculpture Trail in Raflo Park was created by COPA in collaboration with FOLPA in
2016. Every two years, COPA issues a call to artists. A jury of art professionals selects five
sculptures for installation. Once installed, the sculptures remain on display for two years. The
next call to artists will be issued in late 2019, for sculptures to be installed in the summer of
2020. For more information about ArtsPARKs and other COPA projects, visit
