Civil War Exhibit on Display at Thomas Balch Library
More than 300 artifacts will be available for viewing by appointment only.
Leesburg, VA (June 25, 2020) – Beginning July 1, the Thomas
Balch Library will feature a Civil War exhibit with more than
300 artifacts collected by local resident John Creamer.
Items include belt buckles, rifles, artillery, and currency, most
of which have been found throughout Leesburg and Loudoun
County. A number of the items are associated with the Battle
of Balls Bluff.
“A lot of the items were found on construction sites,”
Creamer said, referencing Potomac Crossing and the property
behind the old Walmart, located off Edwards Ferry Road. “I
have enjoyed the fact that it was recovered and people can
see it. Had it not been recovered it would have been gone forever.”
The exhibit will be on display in the Margaret Mercer Room through August 2020 and can be
viewed by appointment only. For more information, call the Thomas Balch Library at 703-737-
7195 or email balchlib@leesburgva.gov.
