CARES Act Funding Available to Local Non-Profit Organizations
Eligible organizations must meet a number of requirements.
Leesburg, VA (July 15, 2020) – The Leesburg Town Council has allocated $1,000,000, in CARES
Act funding, in support of non-profit organizations working to assist Leesburg residents who have
been financially or medically impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
An evaluation committee, consisting of five community members, and including non-voting Town
staff, will review applications and make a recommended allocation of grant funding to the Town
Council. All grant fund expenditures must be in direct response to the public health emergency
resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. In making its recommendations, the focus of the
evaluation committee will be to address as many COVID-19-related community needs as possible.
Examples of support may include rent/mortgage assistance, utility assistance, food assistance,
and medical expenses related to COVID-19.
Funds may only be used to cover costs that are necessary expenditures related to the COVID-19
public health emergency and must be spent on qualifying activities by December 30, 2020.
The Town Council is scheduled to review the recommendations of the evaluation committee and
approve the final grant awards at their work session and business meetings on August 10 and 11,
2020. The Town Council will award only those grants that it finds to be necessary expenditures
to address the public health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic, in accordance with
federal guidelines for the Coronavirus Relief Fund.
