Downtown Traffic Detour for Relocation of Gas Main Begins
Sunday, September 13
The intersection of Market and King streets will be closed at night, from
September 13 through November 25, 2020.
Leesburg, VA (September 4, 2020) – Washington Gas is scheduled to begin the relocation of a
gas main located under the intersection of Market and King streets, on Sunday, September 13,
2020.
During this work, the intersection will be closed and traffic will be detoured around the closure.
Motorists are asked to follow detour signs. The detour route will be similar to the route used
for downtown events such as the Flower and Garden Festival. See map below.
Work will take place between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. The
entire project is expected to be completed by November 25, weather permitting.
The relocation is taking place in order to facilitate the replacement of the storm sewer system
at the intersection as part of the Market and King Street intersection improvements project. For
