A RESOLUTION: TO INITIATE A ZONING ORDINANCE TEXT AMENDMENT
ALLOWING THE TEMPORARY STORAGE OF AUTOMOBILES AT
OFF - PREMISES LOCATIONS
WHEREAS, the Leesburg Zoning Ordinance provides that certain uses may be permissible
on a temporary basis subject to the controls, limitations and regulations set forth in the zoning
ordinance;
WHEREAS, those temporary uses set forth in the Zoning Ordinance are wayside stand,
Christmas tree sale, fair, carnival, circus, festival, dog show, horse show, tent revival and similar
meetings and rally and most of the aforementioned uses are allowed for no more than 10
consecutive days in any 6 month period; and
WHEREAS, the outdoor storage of automobiles is a permanent use only permitted by
special exception in the B -2, B -3, and I -1 zoning districts.
WHEREAS, outdoor storage of automobiles is not permitted in the B -1 or B -4 zoning
districts;
WHEREAS, in those zoning districts where the outdoor storage of motor vehicles is
permitted by special exception, the outdoor area devoted to the storage of automobiles is limited to
an area so designated on an approved site plan. Moreover, it must be enclosed by a fence, wall,
landscaped berm or other suitable and appropriate method, having appropriate lighting and parking
surface.
WHEREAS, the Town Council recognizes there may be a need for automobile dealerships
in the town to store automobiles in the town on a temporary basis.

ALLOWING THE TEMPORARY STORAGE OF AUTOMOBILES AT
OFF - PREMISES LOCATIONS
THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that
Planning and Zoning Department staff is directed to investigate initiating a zoning ordinance text
amendment allowing the temporary storage of automobiles at off - premises locations.
