A RESOLUTION: INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO THE TOWN CODE, PART TWO,
(TOWN CODE), CHAPTER TWO (ADMINISTRATION), ARTICLE 5
(BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS), DIVISIONS 1 (GENERALLY) AND 2
(BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS) RELATING TO ATTENDANCE,
MEMBERSHIP, DUTIES AND COMPENSATION OF BOARDS,
COMMITTEES AND COMMISSIONS
WHEREAS, Code of Virginia of 1950, as amended, Section 15.2 -1411, authorizes the
governing body of any locality to appoint advisory boards, committees and commissions; and
WHEREAS, the Leesburg Town Code, Part 2, Chapter 2, Article 5, Divisions 1 and 2
establish and define certain boards, committees and commissions to advise the town council; and
WHEREAS, in order for boards, committees and commissions to more effectively
communicate with the town council, certain boards, committees and commissions should be
combined, duties and attendance should be more clearly defined and it may be necessary for
compensation of board and commission members to be adjusted; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to §§ 15.2 -1411 (Appointment of advisory boards, committees and
commissions; compensation and reimbursement of expenses), 15.2 -2210 (Creation of local planning
commission), 15.2 -2212 (Qualifications, appointment, removal, terms and compensation of
members of local planning commissions) 15.2 -and 15.2 -2306 (establishes historical review board)
of the Code of Virginia of 1950, as amended, the Town is authorized to establish, define and
compensate boards and commissions.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that
amendments to the Town Code shall be initiated to:
1. Redefine the duties of the Information and Technology Commission;

MEMBERSHIP, DUTIES AND COMPENSATION OF BOARDS,
COMMITTEES AND COMMISSIONS
2. Standardize the attendance requirements of all boards, committees and commissions to
conform to the planning commission attendance requirements set forth in Virginia Code Section 15.
2 -2212; and
3. Limit the amount of boards, committees and commissions that an individual may serve
upon to one; and
4. Adjust the compensation of any and /or all boards, committees and commissions as
directed by Town Council.
Town staff shall advertise amendments to the Town Code to effectuate the changes.
