PROCLAMATION
Youth Art Month
WHEREAS, Youth Art Month was started in 1961; and
WHEREAS, Art education provides substantial educational benefits to all elementary, middle and
secondary students; and
WHEREAS, Youth Art Month encourages commitment to the visual arts by students, educators,
and community organizations; and
WHEREAS, Youth Art Month brings attention to K-12 visual art education and encourages support
for quality school art programs; and
WHEREAS, Youth Art Month provides a forum for acknowledging skills that are fostered through
experiences in the visual arts that are not possible in other subjects in the curriculum; and
WHEREAS, Art education develops students’ creative potential and improves problem-solving
and critical thinking skills by reinforcing and bringing to life what students learn in other subjects;
and
WHEREAS, The National Art Education Association, in conjunction with the Washington Art
Education Association, strives to improve the well- being of our communities by upgrading visual
awareness through art education and cultural awareness within Washington State and the United
States as a whole;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mason Thompson, Mayor of the City of Bothell do hereby proclaim March
2024 as Youth Art Month and encourage all residents to give their full support to school arts
programs for our youth.
