Health and Human Services Committee
January 14, 2009 at 7:00 PM
Present: George Pettengill, Jean Sears, Doris Franzago, Deborah Blackman Jacobs and
Vivian Cafarella.
The meeting was called to order at 7 PM by chairman, George Pettengill. The minutes of the
last meeting were accepted as presented.
The present officers were asked if they were willing to continue in their present positions.
They all agreed and were unanimously re-elected.
George informed us that the Town Manager would like us to hold to a Z% increase. This will
be very hard to do. George also read a memo from Sonia Schonning, Interim Director of Big
Brothers/Big Sisters. This was the breakdown of their budget as we had requested.
Officials of Nauset Together We Can-Juice Bar have informed us they have afull-time
director, facilities at Willy's Gym and the use of a house on that same property. They sound
very optimistic. Their funding money for the current year has been given. to them.
We discussed "consistency" in our financial recommendations. As a result, Deborah moved
and Jean seconded that only $3,000 be granted to the Cape Cod Children's Place. This
received a unanimous favorable vote.
We were again asked to study the Barnstable County Health and Human Services Report and
perhaps end in Brewster, an area of special study.
The meeting adjourned at 8 PM.
