Committee on State, Federal, and Regional Government
Wednesday, April 21, 2010
6:00 PM
Present: Councilor Kounelis (Chair), Councilor Falkoff (Vice -Chair),
Council Palomba (Secretary), and Mr. Bob MacDonald.
The purpose of the meeting was to interview Mr. Bob MacDonald,
candidate for appointment to the Board of Elections Commissioners as
recommended by the Town Manager and the members of the Republican
Town Committee.
Councilor Kounelis called the meeting to order at 6:03 PM.
Mr. MacDonald explained that he has been active in town government
and electoral politics since he was twelve years old, having worked on the
campaign of Clyde Younger for School Committee. He was elected to the
Town Meeting at the age of 18 while still a senior at Watertown High
School. He has worked on local and national campaigns for Democrat
and Republican candidates in Watertown as well as in South Carolina,
Florida, and New Hampshire.
In response to the question of why he would like to serve on the Board of
Elections, Mr. MacDonald stated that he wanted to "give back to the
community". The members of the Committee and Mr. MacDonald
discussed a number of election -related issues including the idea of
centralizing the existing polling locations and how to increase voter
registration and voter turn out in town elections.
Following the interview, the members of the Committee voted in favor of
appointing Mr. MacDonald to the Board of Elections. The vote was three
in favor and none opposed.
Councilor Kounelis adjourned the meeting at 6:18 PM.
