HomeMy Public PortalAboutLadies Library -- 2009-07-16 Agenda (2) The Brewster Ladies' Library Association Annual Meeting July 16, 2009 Chris Kenney, President, who complimented the Bylaws, which stipulate only 15 members need by present to constitute a quorum, called the 150th annual meeting to order. The minutes from the 2008 annual meeting were read and approved. Chris reviewed the activities of the past year. The budget was $688,000, 73%paid by the Town, and$189,000 from this association. Both the Teen and Children's rooms have been substantially upgraded The fiscal 2009 income was $170,000. That comes primarily from the Annual Book sale (33- 34M),memberships, 44M, estate gifts and grants (Sheldon Bradley Estate, Eddy Foundation). The Endowment Fund is $325,000, down $75,000 from 2008. The Towns Capital Plan is expecting a $150,000 decrease in state aid. The $50,000 approved for Archival Storage is dependent on the revised town budget. The Board of Directors and Staff entered into a 4year SEIU collective bargaining contract. Board member Jean Dube died in February. Judy Racely retired from the Board after 8 years of service. Anne O'Connell,Nominating Committee Chairperson announced the nominees for the next year. They are: President-Susan Bugden Vice President-Jeff Gardner Treasurer-Anne O'Connell Recording Secretary- Kit Reynolds Corresponding Secretary- Janet Bantly She introduced two new Board members: Michael Kemp and Kathy McNamara She introduced two new members of the Nominating Committee: Val Lewis and Mike Schwimmer Chris Kenney moved that the Recording Secretary cast one vote for the entire ballot. It was seconded and approved. Susan Bugden,the new President, thanked retiring president Chris Kenney and vice president Lies Weiss for their leadership these past 4 years. She also stated that we are challenged to meet our financial, fundraising and strategic planning goals in light of the new economy. The Library Director, Suzanne Teuteberg, reported on the years activities: 1) A ten page statistical report to the State was due the end of August. It states that circulation Cape wide was up 8.2%, Brewster 8.3%with 147,000 items checked out this past year. 2) The BLL held the first ever Cape Cod Memories. 3) It distributed 3 newsletters and an annual report, largely due to Jeff Gardener and Liz Weiss 4) Fines Amnesty Day was a big success where fines were exchanged for food for food shelves. 5) The display cases had monthly exhibits due to efforts of Chris Lord 6) Eddy Foundation money was used to update the Children's Room 7) Thanks to 198 Volunteers, thanks to the efforts of Daryl, helped in numerous ways 8) The Book Sale is year round activity 9) Thanks to Press, free promotion in Cape Times and Cape Codder 10)Thanks to Library Staff who handled the increases in the use of our resources 11)Thanks to Town Hall who gives us tremendous support 12)Held first meetings for Emergency Preparedness 13)Thanks to Board Members, especially to Chris Kenney for his leadership in finances, membership and early advocate to adopt new technologies, and to Judy Racely who has managed the landscaping for year. Vice President Liz Weiss honored the 198 volunteers who donated 7200 hours. She then awarded the Sara Augusta Mayo Award to Pat Pratson, for her twelve years of volunteering, working double shifts, in a variety of activities, always calm, helpful and friendly. And in closing, Susan Bugden, President, for the Board offered thanks to Suzanne, the staff, Daryl and all the volunteers.
