Corbin St. Present: Acting Chair Linda Paynter, Sharon Billings, Mixon Nelson, Linda Paynter, Gregory Yavelak, Thomas Darling and Jon Simpson Absent: Bridget Booher was absent. Staff: Public Space and Sustainability Manager Stephanie Trueblood 1. Call to order, roll call and confirmation of quorum Acting Chair Linda Paynter called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. Public Space and Sustainability Manager Stephanie Trueblood called the roll and confirmed the presence of a quorum. 2. Agenda changes and approval There were no changes to the agenda. Motion: Member Mixon Nelson moved to approve. Member Jon Simpson seconded. Vote: 7-0 3. Minutes review and approval Minutes from regular meeting on Sept. 20, 2023 Motion: Simpson moved approval of the Sept 20, 2023, minutes as submitted. Member Gregory Yavelak seconded. Vote: 7-0 4. Presentations A. Yates-Greene planting on West King Street. Yates-Greene Planting Company proposed to plant three forest pansy redbud trees on West King Street. Motion: Yavelak moved to approve. Simpson seconded. Vote: 7-0 B. Dorothy N. Johnson Community Center plantings The community center requests the board prioritize plantings at the community center property. Nelson will serve as advisor for the project and liaison for the board. Motion: Nelson moved to approve. Billings seconded. Vote: 7-0 TREE BOARD MINUTES | 2 of 2 C. Annual elections chair and vice chair Motion: Billings moved to appoint Member Linda Paynter as the Chair. Nelson seconded. Vote: 7-0 Motion: Paynter moved to appoint Member Bridget Booher as the Vice Chair. Simpson seconded. Vote: 7-0 5. Updates A. Garden Club The Master Gardener volunteers of Orange County group will begin replanting at the Hillsborough Visitor’s Center. B. Invasive species removal team The team continues to remove Japanese stilt grass and Chinese privet from Riverwalk. Outreach is needed to increase participation. C. Staff The Tree Board meeting in November will be held at Fairview Community Center. The town’s planting priorities will be the Riverwalk banks, Dorothy N. Johnson Community Center, Nash St. containers, Turnip Patch Park and Murray Street Park. Motion: Nelson moved to celebrate Arbor Day on Nov. 15, 2023, by planting a Paw Paw tree at Fairview Community Center. Yavelak seconded. Vote: 7-0 6.
