HomeMy Public PortalAboutStony Brook Mill Sites Committee -- 2009-12-02 MinutesTown of Brewster Mill Sites Committee Brewster Police Facility Minutes of Meeting December 2, 2009 Attendees: Dana Condit, Chairman Faythe Ellis, Treasurer ~ Sandra Godwin, Secretary rv William Todd Roger O'Day ~--~ r-~ ~J Absent: Carl Ahlstrom Guests: Stan Godwin, Miller • MEETING CALLED TO ORDER AT 7:05 PM BY DANA CONDIT • Secretary Position: Faythe Ellis nominated Sandra Godwin for the position of secretary, since Joyce Davis is no longer on the committee. Approved unanimously by all present. • Finances: Operating Budget has $2590.15 of which $750 will be paid to the miller in the spring for his salary. Gifts and Donations has $3766.88 • Mills and Gills: Faythe reported that the festival was a good first try. The turnout was good despite the 3 inches of rain. Involvement of the Historical Society and the Museum of Natural History with the festival was discussed. Dana suggested we include both groups again, despite MNH's limited involvement for 2009. Current Mill Site improvements: There was discussion among the members about the current roadwork improvements going on at the mill site. The stone wall is being rebuilt to continue the current wall at the parking area around the corner to the west. Dana will check with Sue Levin the town planner about parking signage, and with the police chief about a "speeding light". Pond Dam: Chris Miller applied for an extension for $15K grant from Fish America to repair the length of the dam at the pond as well as correct mistakes from the work that was done in 1968. Bricks: The entire walkway needs to be repaved with modular paving bricks. Dana will coordinate with volunteers to repave the walkway near the mill, but the walkway on the herring run side will go out to bid. • Invasive Plants: Per Dana, Seth Wilkinson said he could come up with a plan, explaining what is currently growing in the valley, for $1200. Dana also said Russ Kleekamp told him there might be a person involved with the current renovation project that could take care of it. • Dave Rogers: Dave Rogers contacted Dana wanting to plant daffodil bulbs at the Christmas tree and on top of the stone wall. Dana will visit with him and send Dave to the Board of Selectmen if he is interested in joining the Mill Sites committee. He is a landscaper who lives near the mill. • New Mill progress plans: The committee reviewed the drawings on the progress plans for the renovation to the actual millworks. Design work done to date was ok'd by the committee and now will move forward. • Bill for $4100-TTL Architects: Bill Todd made a motion that we authorize Charlie Sumner to pay the bill for design work to date. Sandra Godwin seconded it. • Next meeting: The next meeting is set for Wednesday, January 6, 2010. • Dates for 2010 include: Opening Date for the mill - 6/26/10 Indian Pudding Parry - 7/24/ 10 Mills NGills - 8/28/10 The miller and his family will be away Saturday 7/17/10 • Grist Mill: The miller, Stan Godwin, expressed an interest to set up electric candles in the windows of the Grist Mill for the holiday season. The committee approved this idea. Stan also mentioned he would order the 100 duds for $300- 400 to resell at the price of $10 each if that was still agreeable to the committee. • Adjournment: Faythe Ellis motioned to adjourn, seconded by Bill Todd.
