Loudoun Credit Union Announces Grant Awards to Three Local
Non-Profit Organizations
Grant program is a part of LCU’s year-long 35th anniversary celebration
Leesburg, VA (November 8, 2012) – Loudoun Credit Union (LCU) today announced the three
non-profit organizations receiving grants as part of LCU’s 35th anniversary celebration. The
grants will be used to further the organizations’ services to residents of Loudoun County. In a
ceremony at 4:00pm on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Cindy Mester, LCU Board Chairman, will
present a representative from each organization with a check for $3,500. The check
presentation ceremony will take place at the LCU’s main office at 801 Sycolin Road SE in
Leesburg. The three grant recipients are:
• Volunteer Loudoun partners with over 250 local non-profits to assist with placement of
volunteers to meet the non-profit demand throughout Loudoun County.
• Lovettsville Lions Club provides sight and hearing screenings, holiday meals, student
scholarships and funding for the “Helping Hands” program.
• Loudoun Community Health Center promotes optimal health and reduces health care
disparities by providing access to high quality and comprehensive health care to low-
income residents in Loudoun County.
As an example of the importance of these grants, Lovettsville Lions Club will primarily use the
$3,500 to cover cost of their Holiday Food Meals and Food Pantry Program. Club President
Andrea Miller commented, “Our needs have grown by 15% from last year and we struggled to
meet last year’s costs.”
“LCU received over forty applications from non-profits that provide a wide range of needed
services to the community,” noted Cindy Mester. “Although we were able to award only three
grants, we are humbled to be able to give back to the community in this manner. We look
forward to continuing this grant program next year.”

“The grant committee was greatly challenged to choose just three recipients from among the
applicants,” said Marantha Edwards, Leesburg’s Economic Development Director and a
member of the LCU grant committee. “Even though Loudoun County is one of the wealthiest
counties in the country, we still have residents in need. The number of applications we
received and the range of services represented in those applications highlighted for us the
struggles that some of our citizens face daily. As an LCU member, and former board member,
I’m proud that the LCU is contributing to the community in this way.”
Loudoun Credit Union is state chartered and federally insured with assets exceeding $29
million. LCU has more than 6,900 members and serves Loudoun County Government, Loudoun
County Public Schools, Loudoun Water, Inova Loudoun Hospital and the employees of the
towns within Loudoun County. For more information, please visit www.loudouncu.com.
